Dolphus Raymond is not liked by most citizens of Maycomb. He is considered an "alcoholic" and he has mixed children. He does not drink, though; all he has in the brown bag is Coca-Cola. He acts this way for a reason. Raymond knows most of Maycomb does not like him for a no reason, so he decided to give them a reason.
This case is not black and white. The jury has to consider Tom's and Mayella's sides. They vary greatly. They need to decide to trust a honest "nigger" or a disgraceful white girl who liked a black man.
