No one in Maycomb will hire Helen, Tom Robinson's wife. They will not hire her for a few reasons. First of all, she is black and most of the characters in To Kill a Mockingbird are racist. Also, they do not want to hire a possible crimanal's wife. They hate the Robinsons and the Maycomb citizens want them to suffer.
Scout has grown two ways. She has physically gotten older. Scout is probably growing taller, maybe her looks are changing some. She has also matured. Scout is listening to Calpurnia and respecting her elders more, she does not get into fights as often, and she is becoming wiser. She realizes things that adults cannot and she is trying to respect Atticus' wishes to not get into fights.
The boys are allowed to do more and they are treated with more respect. Calpurnia does not mind if Jem is eating all the food and forgetting his sister, but if it was the opposite way around, Cal would probably not extend the same curteousy to Scout. This is not fair; girls should be able to have the same oppurtunites. This is probably because people of that time believe boys are better than girls and they can handle themselves better.
Aunt Alexandra does not like Calpurnia. She does not like Cal because she is black. Alexandra also does not think Cal is important to the Finch family. She wants to let her go, but Atticus refuses. He says, "We still need Cal as much as we ever did."
I believe Aunt Alexandra is racist. She has no reason for hating Cal, but she still does. Whenever Jem and Scout come back with Calpurnia from her church, she is livid. She does not think that white children should be at a black people.
